A message from Martyn Swain – Managing Director of ‘The Magical Opera Company’ and Ruby’s creator:

‘In these days of austerity – not to mention a looming ‘double-dip recession’ funding is extremely difficult to come by for any theatrical, artistic or creative endeavour.

‘Ruby’, make no mistake, will be heavily reliant on its sponsors to ensure that the production maximizes it’s potential.

As a Leeds and York based community project with great hopes of expanding to National and even international status, we’re hoping to generate contributions from local businesses and philanthropists for a project which will bring great benefits to those who get involved.

In the past myself, my wife Britt and the RSC’s Margo Gunn visited secondary schools with our ‘Time Space & Communication’ project. The day long workshops would see school children write, rehearse and perform a play (including the creation of the sets) in a single day – so I’ve seen at first hand the sheer joy and confidence such a project can generate in young people.

‘Ruby’ is simply a more sophisticated extension of that idea.

Ruby’s World Premiere is to be held in York just before Christmas – enabling children, young people and even their parents to involve themselves in a full-blooded theatrical production and also give them more than a glimpse of how professional performers and musicians go about their work.

With your help as a sponsor this dream project will grow and thrive.

For those who don’t wish to get directly involved there will be a chance to come and see the live performances in all their glory – a genuine piece of that all too rare a commodity – family entertainment.

These are only the first of many ‘Ruby’ shows  – so perhaps those not picked up in the first draft will be excited enough about the show itself to want to get involved next time round.

If you can help to make ‘Ruby’ a success by making a donation we will accommodate you in whatever way we can – and a large donation will most definitely see your name put up in lights!

Please let me know if you can help – we’re counting on you!
